Motawi tiles are striking art pieces and installation accents. Handmade using the traditional Cuenca technique, each design holds lakes of deep, colorful, translucent glazes. Our custom built frames not only give you an easy, secure way to display them, they literally make them stand out—(1.5”)—off the wall!
Tile based on a design by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), recognized world-wide as one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. In 1927, Wright submitted a series of cover designs for Liberty Magazine. At the time all four designs were rejected by the editors, deemed them too “radical,” and the covers were never published. One of the designs, Saguaro Forms and Cactus Flowers, depicts Wright’s interpretation of a desert landscape. Although initially disregarded, the design was later transformed into a stained-glass feature of Arizona’s famous Biltmore Hotel lobby. Now it is one of Wright’s most popular designs. Ceramic Tile produced by Motawi Tileworks. Handcrafted wood frame produced by The Framer’s Workshop.
