Philo Television
Philo Televison is a post-production television facility in San Francisco, whose original location was on Green Street, on the actual site where Philo Farnsworth invented the world’s first television in the 1920s. We assisted PhiloTV with two projects. First, we helped them to develop a wall arrangement of vintage television magazine ads for one of their editing suites. The challenge was to come up with a design that would be visually interesting in the low light of an editing suite. Working closely with executives at Philo, we chose bold Philco and Farnsworth TV ads, among others, and matted them in wide, classic 8 ply ivory rag board, using a simple, yet elegant Roma frame.
For the main hallway leading from the lobby to the gourmet kitchen, offices, and editing suites, we framed the photographic art of Dallas Hyatt. Dallas works at Philo, and was active in the selection of 16 bold photos from his vast inventory of images. We framed the photos in soft grey Nielsen metal frames with a slight retro shape, which complements the metal and concrete pillars, and hardware in the building. Both the editing room images and those for the hallways were laid out in our shop, photographed, and then finalized onsite with before installation. By special arrangement, we installed the work on a Sunday because of the need for quiet in the television studios.
