Jan Schmuckal paints in the Tonalist tradition. Painted "ala prema," wet-in-wet, her original oils sell rapidly. We're happy to offer a selection of Giclée prints of her colorful landscapes that work well with the Craftsman Style interiors found in many Berkeley homes. The three above are sold framed but we have others in the shop, signed on the matting, for $35. Click HERE to learn more.
VIDEO: Optium Museum Acrylic in the Rijksmuseum
VIDEO_ Rijksmuseum_s use of Optium Museum Acrylic
Masterpieces from Rembrandt van Rijn to Piet Mondriaan are seen in a new light at Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. More than 100 pieces are framed with Tru Vue® Optium® Acrylic Glazing. (Click to watch video.)

Kirstie writes from Amsterdam: "The glazing in this museum is outstanding. They combined professional installation lighting with the best glazing available. When looking at the acrylic, it fooled us. On most of the paintings it just looked like it wasn't there. I have never seen it installed so well."

We are proud to cary Tru-Vue® UV Conservation Clear glass, Museum Glass and Optium Museum Acrylic®

The Berkeley Rose Garden Pergola by Daniella Thompson
The Berkeley Rose Garden Pergola. Photo by Daniella Thompson, 2007.
This month, as the Berkeley Rose Garden hits full bloom on Mother's Day, we lament the loss of the Berkeley Rose Garden Pergola. The curving redwood trellis, originally designed by Bernard Maybeck, final design and execution by landscape architect Vernon M. Dean, has crowned the Berkeley Rose Garden  amphitheater since its opening in 1937. According to the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association (BAHA), The City of Berkeley will dismantle the Pergola this year but, citing budget restrictions, won't rebuild it before 2019. BAHA is raising funds to help rebuild the trellis.

Our favorite artist, Yoshiko Yamamoto, has been busy! In February she published her Mount Rainier White Pass triptych and her ambitious, gold applied, Tea Blossoms. This month she is wrapping up TWO new prints. Kale Flower and Crow & Persimmons. Both now available for purchase in our online store! And if that were not enough, Motawi has just produced another of her designs as a tile (below)!

NEW for Spring, 2016. Artist Yoshiko Yamamoto strives to fuse Japanese design sensibility with fine craftsmanship. Several years ago, Nawal Motawi, a longtime admirer of Yoshiko's work, approached her for a collaboration. Motawi thought Yamamoto's bold prints would work well as raised-line tile designs. She was right. Yamamoto's graceful scenes bring the clay to life.

Original Andy Warhol "Mercedes" in a Protective, Optium Museum Acrylic Box
Original Andy Warhol _Mercedes_ on canvas in a protective_ Optium Museum Acrylic Box
Mercedes-Benz Research & Development of Sunnyvale, CA, needed to add both UV and physical protection to an original Andy Warhol on canvas. They requested that we devise a way to protect the art while in the original frame and without removing it from the wall. ABOVE is a Photoshop generated visualization of the option they chose. CLICK HERE to see a larger view and a photograph of the completed installation.

The acrylic box is made from Tru-Vue Optium Museum Acrylic. This product not only filters 99% of damaging UV light, it is extremely strong and abrasion resistant. Moreover it is produced with a patented process that virtually eliminates unwanted reflections and glare. It is the ultimate protective solution for large works of art. Kirstie _ Jeff in the Netherlands
Kirstie and Jeff are on holiday in The Netherlands and Belgium this month, and they just sent back photos from Keukenhof Gardens near Amsterdam. This year's Keukenhof theme is The Golden Age, and what better way to express the idea than with golden frames?
